The lakes are located on the broad Olbe plateau consisting of small hillocks, large hollows and grassy terraces, under the serrated ridge of monte Righile stretching out towards monte Ferro. Their waters cover the bottom of ancient basins dating back to the last Ice Age. Of the three, the most westerly is a kind of pond, the central one is small and not very visible. The most interesting is certainly the most easterly, fairly broad and very deep, with the white pinnacles of Righile reflected in its very green waters.
Among the suggestions to reach the lakes of Olbe this is a bit less interesting than the previous one. The lonely and wild valley, however, has its own unique charm, the path is sunny and not particularly strenuous, but unfortunately, when it reaches the surroundings of Sella Sambl, it crosses the trail from the refuge 2000 and directed towards the lakes which at certain times (especially in August), mean it is pretty crowded. Thus a quiet and lonely trek can become, in spite of yourself, a kind of procession sometimes made up of boisterous hikers often lacking the respect that these places deserve.

From Cima Sappada follow provincial road n. 22 of the val Sesis to the baita Rododendro (car-park). Here you take an unsurfaced road on the left (signed “laghi d'Olbe”) that, having crossed the Piave on a boardwalk, becomes a path and enters the forest further up with comfortable turns. Higher up, having passed the last larches and firs, the trail climbs the slope constantly along the side of the steep foothills bordering the river Miniera to the north as far as a large saddle, Sella Sambl, where it joins the cart track from the rifugio 2000 and with which the route continues on to the lakes (see itinerary n. 25 in the Walking section).
The descent is along the same route.
